Upcoming Auditions!

Helen of Sparta by Jacob M. Appel
Directed by Danielle Mari

Raconteur Theatre Company will hold auditions for its August 2011 production of Helen of Sparta in June. By the same playwright as last season’s hit, Arborophilia, this time Appel takes us into a classic story of gods and love with a not-so-classic approach.  Come back later for specifics on dates and location of auditions.

Audition Information
WHEN: Sunday, June 12th at 11am & Monday, June 13th at 7pm
WHERE: MadLab (227 North 3rd St)
PREPARATIONS: If available, bring a resume and headshot. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Characters to be Cast
Helen of Sparta: (F-20s) The world’s most beautiful woman. A spoiled diva.
Paris: (M-20s) A Trojan prince.  He’s always madly in love. Right now he’s madly in love with Helen.
Oenone: (F-20s) Wife of Paris.   Jilted and jaded. Her anger comes from a place of real hurt.
Cassandra / Chorus: (F-20s) A bearer of tidings, some true. Nobody ever believes her, but she keeps trying.
Menelaus: (M-30s) King of Sparta, Helen’s husband. He likes to order people around.
Protesilaus: (M-45-60) King of the Phylaceans. Proud warrior meets sensitive husband.
Laodamia: (F-45-60) Wife of Protesilaus. Full of anxiety. Not on meds.

Performance Dates
Thursday, August 11 – Saturday, August 27, 2011. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm, with a matinee at 2pm on Sunday, August 21 at 2p.m

The Other Paper’s Best of 2010

Raconteur’s August 2010 production of Arborophilia received a unique award in theatre critic Richard Aides’s Best of 2010.  Congratulations to Jill Ceneskie for her performance and director Danielle Mari for her innovative vision for the show!

Reservoir

Directed by Sean Reid
Based on Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck (performed by Raconteur last season), Sanders journeys us through the emotional heartache of Private Frank Hasek, a young veteran of a foreign war suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  His behavior becomes increasingly erratic and threatens to turn violent when he believes his girlfriend Marisa may be having an affair with his Staff Sergeant.

 

Accomplice

Two couples meet at a country house with murder in mind, but who is sleeping with whom? And who is planning to kill whom? You can never be sure where true allegiances lie in this twisting plot.

 

Conk & Bone

Death hires two hapless men from New Orleans to prepare the slain Greek warrior Achilles and a murdered young woman to meet Charon, the boatman who ferries the dead to Hades, but one of them is unable to stay awake on the job. World Premiere
