It’s hard to believe it, but thanks to the perseverance and hard work of some talented individuals, Raconteur Theatre has reached the one year mark! And we’re celebrating it by putting on a show (novel concept, huh?). The show is a collection of short plays called Negotiations and Love Stories and it’s part of our Second Annual Flex Series.
Dwayne Steward explains the Flex Series in his writeup for Columbus Metromix:
A series of short plays, the “Flex Series” has become known for its flexible approach to theater, offering patrons the option of paying to see either Act I or Act II, or both, during any given night of a production.
This year the series is operating under the theme “Negotiations and Love Stories,” a tribute to the woes of love. Check out a synopsis of each of the seven plays featured (read more)
Negotiations and Love Stories runs now through June 6, Thursdays - Saturdays at 8 & 9 PM at Club Diversity (863 S. High St, Columbus, OH) in the Brewery District. Tickets can be reserved or purchased online at the Raconteur website

This Thursday, March 5th Raconteur is thrilled to welcome California playwright, Mary Steelsmith for a special talkback!
Back in college I attempted to write plays – not good ones, but certainly my best effort. As someone whose best experiences have begun online in recent years, I had often thought about how the online social environment could be accurately portrayed on the live stage. I has resigned myself to thinking there was no way to do it in a relatable and non-awkward way.
Then I began reading scripts submitted to RTC for production and I stumbled across Isaac, I am. Mary Steelsmith’s cleverly written play tells an interesting and emotional story almost entirely through the internet.
Join us this tonight, or submit your own questions in the comments. The talkback will begin immediately following tonight’s performance and is free to patrons. Isaac, I am runs 2/26-3/14 at Madlab Theatre, presented by Raconteur Theatre Company.

Tonight is opening night for the regional premiere of Mary Steelsmith’s award-winning play Isaac, I am. We’re excited to bring this story of identity, safety, friendship and love online to Columbus.
Over the past couple weeks you’ve caught a glimpse into the hearts and mind of our cast, and we will continue to share their feelings on theatre, the internet, RTC and life. In the meantime, here’s a synopsis and a picture of our set, designed by Michael Brewer.
If you come see the show, shoot us an email – we’d love to hear your reactions; you might even see your comments on our website!
We spend a lot of our time in cyber space but how do we know what is “real” and what is “safe?” How do we learn to trust anyone? In Mary Steelsmith’s Isaac, I Am (winner of the 2006 Helford Prize) Raconteur Theatre begins to prod for some answers.
Angela (Lorelei Moore) is an expert on safety who has difficulty trusting others due to self-imposed barriers to keep her safe. When she stumbles into a chatroom and begins to make online friends, her views begin to change opening her up to new emotions both online and off. But can she trust the new friendships she has forged? She quickly finds herself wedged between intriguing Ben (Derek McGrath) and grieving father Isaac (Stephen Woosley). She begins to realize that these men desire exclusive attention, and to juggle them, she finds herself losing control of reality itself.
February 26 - March 14
Thursdays - Saturdays at 8pm
Sundays at 2pm
Tickets: $12 for adults, $8 for students/seniors
Buy your tickets online or at the door!
